Check AI Watermark

Upload an image to scan for AI watermarks, provenance signatures, and metadata clues.

Heuristic analysis only. This tool inspects file metadata and known provenance markers (e.g., C2PA strings, vendor tags). It does not run a true AI-detection model and cannot definitively prove whether an image was created by AI.

Drop an image to analyze

JPG, JPEG, PNG, or WEBP — up to 20MB. Files never leave your browser.

Analysis limitations

  • Not definitive. AI watermark detection is probabilistic. A positive result is a strong hint, never a verdict — and a negative result does not prove the image is human-made.
  • Interpret carefully. Treat findings as one signal among many. Combine them with context, reverse image search, and your own judgement before acting.
  • Metadata is fragile. EXIF, XMP, and C2PA manifests can be removed or altered by any image editor, screenshot, or re-upload. Missing metadata is not evidence of anything.

Privacy notice

  • Processed in your browser. Metadata, byte-signature, and dimension checks run locally on your device whenever possible.
  • No permanent storage. Images you upload are not saved on our servers, not added to any training set, and not shared with third parties.
  • You stay in control. Clearing the upload or closing the tab removes the file from memory.

How to read the confidence score

Low0–24%

No watermark signatures found. Most likely a regular image — but that absence is not proof of human origin.

Moderate25–59%

Some indirect indicators (filename hints, AI-typical dimensions). Worth a closer look, but not conclusive.

High60–100%

Known provenance signatures (C2PA, vendor tags) were found in the file. The image very likely came from an AI pipeline.

About Check AI Watermark

Check AI Watermark is a free image analysis tool that inspects uploaded JPG, PNG, and WEBP files for AI-generated indicators. It reads file metadata, scans for known provenance signatures like C2PA Content Credentials and vendor tags from Midjourney, OpenAI, Adobe Firefly, and Stable Diffusion, and surfaces findings with a confidence meter. Everything runs locally in your browser — your image never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

No. Check AI Watermark performs heuristic analysis only. It looks for embedded provenance signatures (C2PA, vendor tags), filename hints, and metadata patterns. A clean result does not prove an image is human-made, and a flag does not prove it is AI.
